Perma Pure has exclusive rights to manufacture Nafion™ tubing
The Nafion™ polymer is chemically converted to unleash its unique transfer properties. This conversion process is proprietary to Perma Pure. Each batch of our tubing is tested for water transfer rate and our products utilize Nafion™ tubing with various ID and OD sizes to achieve essential performance criteria.
About Nafion™ Tubing
Nafion™ tubing is very stable at high temperatures. As noted previously, its chemical resistance is similar to Teflon™, and very few things can attack it. Even samples containing high concentrations of very corrosive gases like hydrogen fluoride or hydrogen chloride can be dried or processed.
For medical device applications, Nafion™ tubing is surrounded by a braided mesh to protect it from contaminants. This braided mesh increases the ID of the Nafion™ tubing Dryer by 0.60”. Various fitting options can be molded to the braiding; standard end fittings types include barbs, male and female leurs. We can design custom fittings if needed.
No energy is needed to remove moisture from a breath sample with Nafion™ tubing. When adding humidity to a gas stream using a liquid water source, energy could be required to obtain higher levels of humidity transfer. Water needs energy to convert from liquid phase to vapor phase. Heat is not required if the source is a highly humid gas environment.
Nafion™ Tubing Biocompatibility
Perma Pure tested our Nafion™ tubing for Biocompatibility. Tests performed on the dryer included Dermal Sensitization, Primary Skin Irritation and Cytotoxicity. Testing meets ISO10993-5 & -10 standards.
Findings also shows that Nafion tubing has an ability to fend off microbial growth. Nafion™ tubing creates a zone of inhibition around itself where microorganisms will not grow; therefore it is antimicrobial in nature. More information on Nafion™ tubing biocompatibility test results is available upon request.
