Coal with High Sulfur
Perma Pure recommends either the Baldwin Super Cooler for SO3 or the GASS 2040.
This is a typical high temperature source stack monitoring application with permitted levels above 500 ppm. Both the SO3 Super Cooler and the GASS2040 are ideal for this application. If the Super Cooler does not get to a dew point low enough to lower the acid dew point, the GASS2040 will be required due to its ability to get to a lower dew point. Biomass (burning trash or wood chips)
Perma Pure recommends the GASS 2040.
Because biomass has a high moisture content, the GASS2040 is the best choice to remove large amounts of moisture from the sample gas stream. Typical gases being monitored are SO2, NOx, CO and CO2. The GASS2040 is able to get to a low dew point while providing the best sample preparation – because all moisture is removed in the vapor phase, measurements are more accurate. Coal with wet scrubber
Perma Pure recommends the GASS 2040
The high moisture content of the stack gas requires the GASS2040 as it is the best choice to remove large amounts of moisture from the sample gas stream in the vapor phase. Standard coolers have a hard time processing large amounts of water. Link to Perma Pure GASS2040 Sampling System Information.
Ultra Low Sulfur Fuels (less than 15 ppm)
Perma Pure recommends the GASS 2040
It is the only product to remove moisture from the sample stream without affecting the SO2 content. At such low sulfur levels, coolers loose up to 90% of the analyte and cannot be used for accurate measurements. Link to Perma Pure GASS2040 Sampling System Information.
Gas, Low Sulfur Coal or Oil (500 ppm)
Perma Pure recommends the Baldwin Digital Cooler
If the permitted levels are 500 ppm or more, the Baldwin Digital Cooler is a good choice. For lower levels, the GASS2040 will be more accurate as the moisture reduction takes place in the vapor phase, leaving the sulfur level in the gas sample unaffected. Link to Baldwin Digital Cooler Information.

SDS Nafion™ Tubing Supplemental Drying System – Where Thermoelectric coolers are hard-specified or already installed in the application, Perma Pure recommends the SDS Nafion™ Tubing Drying System to lower the dew point of the sample once it leaves the cooler. Meant to be used in conjunction with an existing gas cooler based conditioning system, the Nafion™ tubing -based SDS (Supplemental Drying System) is available to further reduce the acid dew point of the sample gas. The SDS can reach a dew point of – 15 C, in many cases eliminating the acid mist problem common to CEMS applications using standard gas coolers or chillers.
